Research report #2: The role of the European Union in the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage in conflict and post-conflict contexts in the Middle East region

 “The Role of the European Union in the Protection and Enhancement of Cultural Heritage in Conflict and Post-Conflict Contexts in the Middle East region: The example of Iraq” (Research report #2) was drafted in partnership with the European External Action Service, MediatEUR and ECDPM It was an input to the international conference organised by the EEAS to be held on 12 and 13 November 2020 on “The role of the European Union on the Protection and Enhancement of Cultural Heritage in conflict and post-conflict contexts and mediation”, which culture Solutions facilitated and prepared an event report on.

Building on the EU’s experience in Iraq as a case-study, this report analyses the main components of a possible EU’s strategic approach to cultural heritage protection and enhancement as a tool for conflict prevention, peace building, dialogue and mediation, in the Middle East and beyond.
